My name is Mariam Altoukhy and I am a second year student at the University of California, Irvine majoring in Business Administration.
I first joined New Horizon in 2002 and am a member of the Class of 2009. For most schools, a student comes and goes and it’s usually up to the student to stay in touch with the school after they have left. Yet, this is not the case when it comes to New Horizon. Even though my sister Sarah and I attended New Horizon for only a couple of years, we were constantly in contact and always invited to alumni events, Eid carnivals, and much more. The care and effort that New Horizon puts into staying in contact with its alumni is unmatched by any other school!
Eleven years after leaving New Horizon, the school still supports me to expand my horizon, providing me with opportunities that would benefit me in my future endeavors. This summer, I have had the pleasure of working in the Advancement Office as a Marketing and Communications Intern. Whether it was preparing for the Eid carnival, designing and creating flyers for upcoming events, gathering information on alumni, researching and documenting previous events for the upcoming annual report, or making important phone calls, the loving staff at New Horizon guided me every step of the way. I can confidently say that I have learned a lot from my experience during this internship and look forward to applying these skills in my future career, insha Allah.
