Message from Head of School

Assalamu alaykum and welcome to New Horizon Irvine!

As New Horizon enters its 19th year of operation, we have much to be proud of! Now serving Preschool through 8th grade with the opening of the Upper Campus & Community Center, New Horizon’s mission has expanded to include offering community programs in addition to exemplary academics while fostering a positive American Muslim identity.  The administration and faculty are inspired and hold tightly to the mission of “preparing students with the knowledge to succeed, confidence to lead, and compassion to serve in an ever-changing world”.  For almost two decades, New Horizon has seen its graduates excel as young adults both academically and socially.  We aspire for our students to have a balanced school experience with academic rigor, Islamic principles, technology, and creativity as its cornerstones. New Horizon is a remarkable place for learning – whether your child is learning to take turns in preschool or if they are preparing for placement in advanced courses in high school – we take pride in working in partnership with parents to provide for the needs of each student. Our educational program and philosophy take into consideration the whole child to be sure students are firmly grounded with academic skills, spiritual knowledge, emotional strength, and social abilities in order to succeed as tomorrow’s leaders.

With two campuses, New Horizon is able to serve the needs of all students no matter their developmental level.  The Lower School serving Preschool through 3rd grade is designed to best meet the needs of a young learner.  With plenty of playground space dedicated to gross motor development and sensory-based learning, students can explore their school environment with confidence. Academically, the Lower School meets the needs of its students by emphasizing the 3Rs (Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic) and the 4Cs (Critical thinking and problem solving, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity). The Upper School serving 4th through 8th grade considers the mature learner by accessing a Science Lab, Art Studio, Quran Studio, and Innovation Lab, as well as single-subject teachers specializing in Mathematics, English, Science, and Social Studies. In addition, 4th – 8th graders are encouraged to participate in the sports league where they represent New Horizon by playing other private schools throughout Orange County.  Within this loving environment, students learn at each age and stage to assert their voice and to speak on behalf of themselves and others – they gain a sense of pride in themselves, in their faith, and in their community.

You’ll find this website to be an excellent introduction to the school, but it’s just that: an introduction. I invite you to get to know New Horizon by attending an Open House event, scheduling a tour, or talking with the families of current students and alumni. I know that you will discover, as I do each and every day, the qualities that can be described but not fully captured unless it is experienced. New Horizon is an extraordinary community of parents, teachers, and students who truly care for one another and who enjoy working and learning together! You will hear the sounds of collaboration and laughter in equal measure with the silence of deep concentration, and the delighted “aha” when students master a new concept. There is no other school in Orange County that offers New Horizon’s unique model: the best of an independent school education imbued with Islamic faith and values. I look forward to telling you – and showing you – more of what New Horizon has to offer!
