History

New Horizon Irvine is the fourth New Horizon school in Southern California and the first to open in Orange County. The first New Horizon campus was opened in Pasadena, California in 1984. Like its predecessors, New Horizon was established by the Islamic Center of Southern California.

The inspiration of a New Horizon in Irvine started with a grassroots effort by about a dozen individuals who wanted to bring the principles and ideology of the Islamic Center of Southern California to Orange County. In 1998, a group consisting of future parents, educators, financial professionals, business experts, construction engineers and information technology specialists formed the initial Board of Trustees for the Irvine campus. Through their efforts and by sharing the dream with others, these pioneers were able to raise the funds necessary to purchase our current school site, break ground, and begin construction.

New Horizon opened its doors to a modest number of students in 2001, and today, it operates at full capacity of 197 students from Preschool through 6th Grade. Our beautiful campus would not have been possible without the strong support of so many community members, past parents, and extended families.

Since 1998, the Board has been a group of volunteer members serving for transitory terms. They continue to look ahead to the needs of the community and implement a strategic plan for financial stabilization, future expansion, and pushing the school’s mission and vision in the right direction.
